My name is Katherine Porter and I am a graduate of the Animal Behavior College’s Dog Training Program which specializes in positive reinforcement techniques. A little bit about myself, I have a bachelors and masters in Social Work. When my husband and I were first married, we moved to Europe. While living in Germany, my husband and I rescued a Jack Russell Terrier named Jack. He required rehabilitation and major behavior modification. With the help of a local trainer and my commitment to understanding his needs and where he is developmentally, I was successful in training him with positive reinforcement techniques. We returned to the states in 2012 and currently live in El Paso, TX. Once we arrived, I began volunteering at local rescues and my desire to rehabilitate and to train dogs grew. I see the importance of developing obedience skills in shelter dogs, so they are more adoptable. We then adopted a terrier mix named Bernie. Bernie demonstrated different needs along with a vastly different temperament than Jack. This required a different approach, but the focus remained the same, positive reinforcement. I enrolled in and later graduated from Animal Behavior College with a Certificate in Dog Obedience Training. I’m recently started my own dog training company, Four Paws and You. I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences and challenges!
